Keeping up with the most recent recalls can help prevent serious injuries from defective products. Some HP batteries purchased between December 2015 – April 2018 could cause serious damage to your computer and is a potential fire hazard.

For this week’s look into product recalls, here’s a breakdown on the batteries that are causing issues for consumers.

Lithium-ion Batteries for HP Notebook Computers

The lithium-ion batteries in some HP laptops can overheat creating a fire hazard that can result in burn injuries. The recall applies to the following Sold with the following product lines:

  • HP Probooks: 64x G2 and G3 series, 65x G2 and G3 series, 4xx G4 series.
  • HPx360: 310 G2.
  • HP Pavilion x360 11 inch Notebook PC
  • HP 11 Notebook PC
  • HP ZBook: 17 G3 and Studio G3

The lithium-ion batteries were also sold as replacements and accessories for the following computers:

  • HP ZBook Studio G4 mobile workstation
  • HP ProBook 4xx G5 series
  • HP Envy 15
  • HP Mobile Thin Clients: mt21, mt22 and mt31

Recall Problems and Solutions

The lithium-ion batteries can overheat, which can lead to burn injuries and permanent damage to the equipment. This issue can affect as many as 78,500 batteries.

HP has set up a webpage specifically for the recall, which contains information on which batteries are included. Unfortunately, consumers can’t replace these batteries themselves as a result, HP will provide free replacement service for the batter by an authorized professional.
