Health Priorities after a Fall
When it comes to fall injury next steps, your first priority is to get healthy. If you are injured after suffering a serious fall, you should seek immediate medical attention. Your medical provider can perform an assessment, offer treatment, and formulate a medical plan for your recovery. So, seek out medical treatment as soon as possible
As difficult as it might be, focus on your health over cost. The medical costs you incur during this time will likely be claimed as part of your case. If you have health insurance, make sure that your medical bills are submitted to your health insurance, whether it is a private health insurance plan, Medicaid, or Medicare.
When it comes to your treatment, it’s important for your health to go to all medical appointments if you are able. If the doctor recommends physical therapy, then make sure you go. Rest is also an important part of the healing process. Sometimes medical treatment doesn’t work and more invasive procedures such as surgery are necessary.
Another suggestion is to keep a journal or diary, and in that journal write down and describe the pain you’re suffering. Make sure you account for how your injuries have impacted your daily life – physically, financially, and emotionally.
For many injured people, the journal can be a cathartic experience that will help you look back at everything you’ve endured and ultimately overcame during this harrowing time. Here are some of the best pain tracking apps for your phone.

When should I begin looking for an attorney?
Your rights are important. Retaining legal counsel as soon as possible after a fall helps to protect your rights going forward.
When I am retained in a fall injury case, I like to begin an investigation into the case immediately. I try to have the scene of the fall documented photographically. Moreover, it/s usually a good idea to alert the property owner of the incident so that the property condition can be preserved in order for property inspections and other investigations can properly proceed. Also, when retained in a fall injury case, I usually request that any video evidence be preserved.
Other steps may be required in the investigation. Because it might take months or years to resolve your claim, an investigation helps preserve evidence to use later in your case.
A fall injury case can be complex. Almost all premises liability or slip and fall cases involve an assessment of all the damages, harms, and injuries that you have suffered, an analysis of the pain and suffering that you have experienced, an economic analysis of lost wages, and a myriad of insurance issues.
If you’re too sick or injured to do so, you can have a close family member, such as a spouse, child, or sibling help you, with your permission and knowledge, reach out to an attorney’s office. However, only you, or your power of attorney, can hire a lawyer to represent you.
Who pays my bills?
Your bills should be submitted to your health insurance company to pay. If you do not have health insurance you may have other options depending on the unique circumstances of your case. We are happy to inform you about those possible options.
If a representative from an insurance company wants to speak with you, it’s best to have your attorney present. Thus, you should reach out to an attorney before communicating with an insurance company.
Do not sign anything from the property owner or the insurance provider’s attorney before discussing the situation with your own attorney. You may be significantly hurting your case if you sign a document that is related to your case without first consulting your attorney.
