According to multiple media reports, there was a horrendous, deadly crash occurring in Greenville SC last night June 25, 2014. As a Greenville SC car wreck lawyer, I am aware of how quickly an accident can become deadly. The two car head on accident occurred on Highway 25 in Travelers Rest, SC near Furman University. Apparently one of the drivers had traveled into the wrong lane of travel as he entered the city of Travelers Rest. A law enforcement officer who was on routine patrol happened upon the car wreck scene and immediately called for fire and EMS support as he checked on the drivers of both vehicles. At this point, things became very dangerous.
According to media reports, one of the drivers was unresponsive and pinned inside his vehcile. The other driver was awake, but injured and could not exit his vehicle. A fire soon started in the engine compartment of the vehicle holding the unresponsive driver, according to media reports. Other officers arrived on scene and all officers began using fire extinguishers. According to a law enforcement spokesman, the fire eventually grew to the point that it began to engulf the driver’s compartment. At this point the unresponsive driver was removed from the car to protect him from the fire. The unresponsive man later died. The driver in the other car was removed from his vehicle and he apparently sustained personal injury.
The automobile accident is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Obviously, it will have to be ascertained why one of the drivers was operating his motor vehicle in the wrong lane. If he was in the wrong lane, then it is likely that he was in violation of South Carolina traffic laws. However, he might have had a good reason as to why he was in the other lane.
