- There were more than 3,500 car accidents on I-85 in South Carolina. The only highway with more collisions was I-26 (Columbia).
- Out of those collisions, there were 17 I-85 car accident fatalities. These 17 fatal encounters resulted in 20 deaths.
- As of 2018, there is an accident in Greenville county on I-85 three times a day.

November 16, 2020
According to media reports, a man was arrested and charged with a DUI after rear-ending a stopped Chevy sedan on I-85 South in Spartanburg County. The collision caused both vehicles to hit two additional vehicles each. The driver of Chevy was entrapped in the vehicle and died on the scene. Click here for full story.
October 27, 2020
According to media reports, a man was killed in a hit-and-run accident just after Exit 44 to US 25/White Horse Road.
July 4, 2020
Two Georgia residents were traveling on I-85 southbound near Anderson county when they hit the wire dividing north and southbound lanes. The vehicle flipped several times and the female passenger was ejected. Unfortunately, the female passenger died, while the male driver was flown to the hospital and treated for serious injuries.
August 12, 2020
A man suffered severe burns in a car accident that occurred on July 6 and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. He died on August 12 due to the severity. The accident occurred on I-85 South near mile marker 28 and involved six over vehicle. One of the vehicles was a tractor-trailer.
Another media report on the accident from Fox Carolina, claims that the man was being treated at the burn center for 90 percent burns.
