The Thomas Creech Law Offices supports the South Carolina Highway Patrol in its “Target Zero” Campaign. And we, like the law enforcement officers that keep us safe, believe that car wrecks are preventable and are certainly not accidents. We encourage you to learn more about Target Zero and how we together can eliminate traffic fatalities and car wrecks in our beloved Palmetto State.
According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the annual average number of deaths in South Carolina for the past five years is 800; there have already been over 500 fatalities in South Carolina this year. The SCDT has created a campaign called Target Zero aimed at reducing these deaths to ZERO.
A car accident is not an accident; it is the result of distraction or carelessness. Some of these factors include driving too fast, driving while under the influence and not wearing a safety belt.
Here are some fatality stats from 2008 – 2012:
1,723 Were not wearing safety belts
2,133 Switching lanes, hitting another vehicle or object
1,808 Young and/or Senior Drivers
1,684 Were speeding
1,794 Were under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs
Each year over 3,000 deaths occur nationally as a result of distracted driving. Did you know that your chance of being involved in a crash is 23 times more likely while texting than driving while not distracted?
How can you help with Target Zero?
In addition to reading our 3 Ways to Avoid an Accident article, you can visit the South Carolina Highway Patrol website and find a list of preventive measures. Part of the awareness initiative includes taking this PLEDGE to support the Target Zero campaign.
The road to zero starts with all of us. At the Thomas Creech Law Offices, we fully stand behind and support these efforts to make our roads safer.
